.. 1st fill ...

Everyone may know that I had the lapband procedure February 1st. Well if you didn't you do now. (ha ha)

Anyway, Wednesday the 27th I went for what's called my first "fill." It was a bit, well very, uncomfortable. She had difficulty finding the port the saline goes in. My skin was deaden but I could fill the poking and proding she was doing there. And I must reinterate that is was unpleasant. But once she found the port, it was smooth sailing. She pushed the saline in and pulled out that massive needle and I was done. I tried not to cry, but a couple of tears fell. No blubbering, just a silent tear or two. I'm not a baby!

I would give the experience a 4. She said since it was the first time that it could be that way and that since this band was a new improved one (which means that it's smaller) it was a bit more difficult.

But I was glad to have it done and out of the way. You know the thought of it was building for those 4 weeks since the surgery and my anxiety could have tensed me up and caused the problem...who knows.

But next visit I'm going to have someone there to hold my hand.

Since when?

Ok... since when did middle school "children" get a class ring when they "graduate" to high school? We didn't have that option when I was a kid. And why did they change "Junior high" to Middle? And why did they change "Junior high" from grades 7-8-9 to grades 6-7-8?
My son got his ring ordered this week. A big bite out of the household budget, but well worth it....He's growing up. He'll be 13 in a few days. I can't believe it.
But dang. I have older nephews and my best friend has two girls that graduated but I don't remember her discussing this with me.
Instruction manual needed!
thanks for reading!

Go Tigers Go!

University of Memphis # 1

Okay, so I'm one of those that jumps on the bandwagon when a local team is playing well....so what? I always root for them, but not always supportive. But I hope they win! Sinky ole UT is going down! Yep I said it.

Common Ground .. exciting ..

What is Common Ground?
Picture a room with about 10 ordinary residents sitting in a circle. It’s a truly diverse group of people. There are men and women, blacks, whites, Asians, Native Americans, Hispanics and other ethnic groups. They represent different religions, backgrounds and generations, and they have much in common.

For six weeks, this small group of diverse people agree to meet at a regular time for two hours. Each week, they sit with a trained facilitator who leads an in-depth discussion on race relations.

It’s hard to talk about race. So it’s easier to avoid the topic. In this safe and open environment, it’s been proven that people will listen and freely share their thoughts, beliefs, and perceptions. As a result, participants are learning more about themselves and others, building trust within our communities and developing relationships across racial divides.

During their time together, they share stories about their life experiences in the Mid-South or other communities. And in that time, something special happens. They begin to get a glimpse of new possibilities and start to understand how a person of another race, gender, religion, age or sexual orientation sees the world and identify common ground.

Common Ground isn’t just talk, it is about action. Participants in from the small groups will come together and take the talk to the next level. Through an Action Forum they will develop and implement specific recommendations on how to improve race relations in our community.

Common Grounds starts with us.

It is a personal decision to be available, be receptive, to share yourself and your stories.

Get involved. Join today.

.. stealing from my brother ..

Okay, I think I told everyone from the beginning (or maybe I didn't), I was inspired by my brother to create this blog. He has had his for over 2 years now. He's announce the birth of his son, shared his "beliefs" on so many things. But the jest of his blog is politics. Lately he's been on a break from posting. He's been uninspired in that arena, so why even say anything, which I thought was interesting.

But...

The other day he announced that he had voted against someone again. Isn't that a great choice of words. Not for, but against. He said that he hadn't found someone that made him want to run out and vote. He wound up voting for Obama in the primaries.

I tell you all this to tell you about a great video from youtube that is very inspiring for me....yes very inspiring. I had decided to vote for Obama before reading his post, but this video is awesomely made and well I loved it. Maybe it made me cry alittle, but I cannot confirm nor deny that.

BUT....

This all goes back to my post on MLK day. Wouldn't it be great to see Obama bring us all together? Can he? I don't know and I can't be fooled into believing that he can, but I'm hoping, and optomistic. I know that's a "dream," but I've learned in my 30'something years that dreams do come true. I know that is not everyone's dream, but I bought into it when I was in elementary school through high school. AND I'm continuing to dream by instilling into my children that dream.

Okay, okay...back to the video. I wanted to link you to it so you could watch.

I rambled a bit, but I hope you held in there with me.

Thanks for reading.

Back to Work .. update ..

Well, I survived the first day back to work.

I feel alittle worn around the edges, but not exhausted.

There's dinner to fix and homework to go over. I still have enough to do that, too.

Thanks for reading.

And another thing...

About the Grammy's...

Amy Winehouse is brilliant! Unforunately, she's a mess. But she still deserves the acknowledgment of her brilliancy, despite what Natalie Cole & some others think.

I wish her luck on sobriety.

Grammy Awards 2008

I had no interest in watching the Grammy Awards this year, but my son loves Alicia Keys and her new song, so we indulged him. But to my surprise, there was Prince, The Time (oh wee oh wee oh), Tina Turner, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard...and I was like, "Dang." Loved it actually.

Back to Work

Well...I'm back to work tomorrow. Alittle anxious, but glad. I'm better at that than staying around the house.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Until then.

Go Tigers Go!

Go Hotshots.

Someone's happy to be there...

My girl and her cheer team went to cheer with the local university cheerleaders at a women's basketball game. They were spectacular! Check it out for yourself.
